Venkatesh Maha yet again sparks controversy

Renowned for his critically acclaimed film ‘C/o Kancharapalem,’ Director Venkatesh Maha has recently found himself in the crosshairs of online ridicule. His open critique of ‘KGF 2’ sparked ire among certain social media users, subjecting him to repeated attacks.

Maha’s positive review of Nani’s ‘Hi Nanna’ drew further mockery from cyber bullies, who demanded another successful film from him before considering his opinions valid.

The harsh reality of enduring relentless abuse on social media is one many face, leading some, including Maha, to contemplate abandoning platforms like Twitter, known for its toxic environment.

In defiance, Maha declared his intention to confront this cyberbullying both personally and legally. Despite this stand, some continued to belittle him, dismissing his creative talents as limited to just one successful film.

For the unversed, a video clip from the interview which was released a few months ago on YouTube soon became viral, in which Maha made certain comments about the blockbuster KGF film without actually naming it. Speaking about the plot of the KGF that is centred on the relationship between the protagonist Rocky (Yash) and his mother, Maha said, “I won’t name the movie, but in it, the mother asks for some quantity of something (gold). The hero goes and liberates people who work there (the KGF mines). In the other part (KGF: Chapter 2), all that gold [is drowned by Rocky]. Is he not a neech kameen kuthe. There were thousands of people, he could have built houses for them, but he throws the rest of the gold. A mother asks someone to become such a lowly dog-like person, and we are clapping for that kind of a story.”
