Tanishtha Chatterjee and JD Chakravarthi are playing lead roles in an upcoming film titled ‘Dahini’, which is directed by National Award winner Rajesh Touchriver. Also featuring Ashique Hussain, Badrul Islam, Angana Roy, Riju Bajaj, Jagannath Seth, Sruthy Jayan, Dilip Das, and Dattatreya, the film is produced by Orion Pictures International Pvt. Ltd. and SunTouch Productions. Human Rights activist and Padma Shree recipient Sunitha Krishnan and Pradeep Narayanan are jointly producing it.
The social thriller, which is about the scourge of witch-hunting, has got a new feather in its cap. It has made it to the Swedish International Film Festival.
This is the second important international recognition that the drama has come to enjoy. Only recently, it received the Best International Feature Film honour at the Pacific Beach International Festival.
Witch-hunting and how it leads to gender-based violence has been depicted in a moving fashion by the film. Women become victims of witch-hunting in property disputes or in cases where they are hated for not conforming to societal gender norms.
