‘Delhi to record coldest day in 119 years’

The National Capital, Delhi, is all set to record coldest day in December in 119 years on Monday with the day temperature recording 9.4 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said. The temperature recorded by the Safdurjung laboratory at 2:30 pm was 9.4 degrees Celsius.

“Delhi likely to record most coldest day today in last 119 year for Dec Month as day temp till 1430 IST of today has been unusually (cold) following a coldest trend with Safdarjung at 1430 IST has 09.4degC,” the IMD tweeted.

The air quality index (AQI) in the capital on Monday was 449 with particulate matter (PM) 2.5, the Met officials said. At the same time, Amritsar (Punjab) recorded 2.8 degrees Celsius, Ambala (Haryana) 4.4 degrees Celsius, Jaipur (Rajasthan) 2 degrees Celsius, Agra (UP) 2.4 degrees and Gaya (Bihar) 3.8 degrees Celsius. Dense fog and poor visibility have caused flight delays and cancellations across north India in the past few days .The Delhi airport authority had earlier warned that flight departures might be impacted if the visibility declined below 125 metres.
