Exclusive: My success isn’t a fluke: Aditi Prabhudeva

Y.Sunita Chowdhary.

This five feet eight inches tall and pretty girl from Davanagere is looking forward to having her film Old Monk in Kannada and Telugu for a streaming platform and theatrical release, sometime soon she expects to make her debut in a straight Telugu film. “Height!” she exclaims and says it helps sometimes and sometimes it is a disadvantage. “People say she is too tall, the hero is short, let us not take her”, she quips.Aditi Prabhudeva Aditi Prabhu Deva is an engineer and she moved to Bangalore to do MBA. When she did, her only dream was to find a good guy and get married. Suddenly, all that changed. Career, she thought of it but it wasn’t the movie field. She was a freelance anchor initially known for her grip on her language and that is when she was asked if she would be interested in acting in movies.Aditi Prabhudeva “One fine day, my friends compelled me to do an audition. It was a random try but after a couple of days, I got a call from a television channel. My father is too strict but that day he said if I liked it, I could go ahead. He would never allow me to watch romantic films and wear glam dresses. I was a different kid but that day, the world was wishing something different for me.Aditi Prabhudeva”She further says, “The channel said 15 days would suffice and I took permission from the college. They were supportive. I started my journey from anchoring to television serials. It wasn’t a fluke or a one day work, where I became a star overnight. It was hard work. I rose from step to step to doing medium budget films and now high budget projects. My life is organised, I never complain, and I am used to working 24 into 7. The only assets I have is discipline and a hard-working nature.aditi 2 People from the movies saw a serial and called me for an audition. I auditioned and prayed and after a week I got a call to appear for a look test. I was in eventually. Three of my films are ready for release and I am shooting for four films. Ranganayaki fetched me good reviews, it was a female centric film on a rape victim. It got selected in Indian Panorama and bagged a few awards. I am a very private person but I find doing social service very gratifying.” She remarks that the Kannada industry has grown by leaps and bounds over the years, be it the small tube, films or now the OTT. Art has no barriers and artists shuttle between different States for work. Aditi PrabhudevaShe states the Telugu film industry in particular has been and is very warm to non-locals and has given vast opportunities to grow in their career and settle down in life. “The industry has a big heart and I thank all of you,” she says. Aditi is actually Sudeepana but as people often misspelt her name, the director of her first film rechristened her Aditi. Aditi lives in Bengaluru and wants to do good projects. “I always look for comfort. I don’t want to come and just disappear. I want people to talk and remember me in a positive way.aditi prabhudeva 6 I am no longer the reserved person and have become quite out going when it comes to doing social service. I have a goal, and I need to accomplish that. We are the lucky few who get the opportunity to act and I don’t want to throw it away by doing bad films. Getting projects is important but for me it is secondary. I believe in having a good reputation, I am a middle class girl and that is my mentality. It is very important for us to be principled and good and I conduct myself that way. I never had a problem and I hope I won’t have in the future too.”Aditi reveals she is an independent person and cleans her rooms despite having a maid at home. She also doesn’t eat production food and carries lunch from home.Aditi Prabhudeva In the evenings when she is back from shoot, she plays with her dog. She encourages her friends to visit her but seldom goes out. She adds, “I am a hyperactive person and I don’t even sit for a while. Even while I talk on the phone, I roam and walk around. If I find some break, I like to go to government colleges and provide help in whatever form I can.  My dream is to run a rescue centre for animals. aditi prabhudeva 6Earlier I would pick up any abandoned dog on the street and give it to some organisation. I would pay for them and later, after a week, the dog goes missing. It happened several times and I lost hope. It was then I decided I would put up a centre in the future.”
