After giving mediocre films Krishnarjuna Yuddham and DevaDas, Nani released his erros and plunged into his own turf with Jersey. Directed by Gowtham Tinnauri, the film evoked positive response for it’s trailer. A sports drama, the film features about aspiring sportsman and talks about the bond between father and his son. It marks Tollywood debut of Shraddha Srinath, a known face in Kollywood and Sandalwood. SO has the film given Nani much neede break for this year? Let us see…

Story:

Arjun (Nani) aspires to play in the Indian cricket team. His hardwork gives him the opportunity to play for team India, but he always misses chance in the final stages. He then given up his dreams and quits cricket at the age of 26. He settles down with Shraddha Srinath who is a working women. Nani also decides to take up odd jobs to make his ends meet for his family. However, as fate has , Nani loses his job. One fine day, then 36-year-old and father to a son, he deiced to fulfill his dream for the sake of his son. Nani decides to play for Ranji matches again. Does he succeeds in getting back to form where he lost, forms the crux of the story.

Performances:

Nani as Arjun has lived the role. In fact, he was so believable that we couldn’t have sees any other performing that role. As a professional cricketer and as a family man, Nani perfectly fit the role. Nani, who in fact is a father in real life sucessfully carried the sae emotion on reel as well.  Shraddha Srinath as Sara is impressive, she couldn’t have asked for a better Tollywood debut As a coach, as a friend, Sathyaraj, who runs side by side with Arjun, has done justice to his role. Those who acted as Nani’s friends also did good job.

Analysis:

A man with many hardships in his life yet continues his endeavors and finally taste success if the concept chosen by Gowtam Tinnanuri.  We have seen films like Jersey. But cricket as the theme and Gowtam’s narration has made the film stand out. Nani who got into the skin of character as a sportsman and the hard-work he did has paid off. In fact, Nani made the audience root for him.

The film proceeds with flashback episode at times, making it fast and slow. Nani’s scenes with his son is sure to make you teary eyed. Having said this, a certain section of audience may not be appeal due to the on and off flashback scenes that makes film slow paced at times. People who expect comedy considering it Nani film may be disappointed as the majority of sequence will leave you teary eyed. The climax also comes as a huge surprise.  Anirudh’s music is a plus for the film and the background music has done some scenes. The cinematography of the film was shown in 1986 and 96 in the background. The Art team deserves appreciation for bringing out that time era.
