Malik Movie Review

So many films of Fahadh Faasil are coming out on Amazon Prime these days. The latest one to do so is the gangster flick, Malik. Read on to see if this film has any juice in it.

Plot

Malik is a big name from a small village in Kerala. He gets arrested before going to Hajj. Cops plan to kill him but Malik, who has a crazy past has alternate plans. What he does and how his life story unfolds is the story of Malik.

Performances

Malik belongs to only Fahadh Faasil and no one else. From the first scene to the end, it is the national award winner who storms the scenes in the best way possible. Fahadh gets so much scope to perform that he nails it in the role which is showcased in different age groups. But Fahadh is crazy in the old avatar as his body language and dialogue delivery are amazing. The supporting cast is also good and lends good support to Fahadh in the film.

Analysis

To start with, Malik is the rise and decline of the character named Malik. The film has traces of Nayagan, God Father, and much more. So, the setting is a bit familiar but the way the director adapts it and sets it in native Kerala is superb. The Muslim angle is given to the story and the manner in which the emotions are rooted is the best part.

Having said that, the film also suffers from a slow pace as it is close to two hours forty minutes long. This can get a bit draggy but the makers do not feel that as they have so much to showcase and do not complain. The BGM, camerawork, and the manner in which the period saga is showcased are some of the best technical aspects of Malayalam cinema in recent times.

Fahadh Faasil does not disappoint you and engages you in every scene. Malik is a dark drama but it enthralls you most of the time. The film will surely win awards galore as it is Fahadh’s best work and one to watch out for.

Bottom Line – Engaging crime drama
