Protests at Hyderabad university supporting Jamia students

The students of  Moulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) stages protest late night on Sunday, December 15, in support of Jamia Millia Islamia University, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), and against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Over 1,000 students staged protest and burnt effigies of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. They expressed solidarity with the students of the two universities and demanded action against the policemen who entered the campuses and resorted to baton-charge on students. MANUU Students Union President Shaik Umar Faruq Quadri said, “Following the protests by student community over concerns of violence on protesting students, we have unanimously decided to continue the protest seeking action against the policemen who are responsible for the violence.” He further added, “The CAB and NRC are discriminatory in nature and aimed at dividing the country on religious lines. CAB violates the basic principles of Indian Constitution.”

The student union also wrote letter to University’s Controller of Examinations seeking postponement of the Semester examination schedule on December 16. They letter reads, “We shall attend the exam on any other date as decided by you. Hope you will understand the situation and allow us to skip the exam on said date”.
