Opinion: NNN – Another low for RGV

At a time when several filmmakers are using OTT platforms to peddle soft-porn in the garb of bold content, here’s an unsurprising new entrant (who’s hit another low). RGV has been unabashed about his love for explicit content for ages now. Well, it’s his personal choice and no questions asked! However, even to those who’re used to his recent films that celebrate voyeurism unapologetically, there’s little doubt that the trailer of his web film Naked Nanga Nagnam would have come as a shocker.

RGV Nathuram Godse

The crass cinematography and the theme feel like a visual rip off of an old-time adult magazine cliché that no one asked for. Someone with an astonishing body of work in his initial years and with the experience of working with several greats in the industry has now reduced his filmography to the exploration of female physicality. Sorry, her thighs. Sigh! Though RGV has opened a new avenue – ‘the pay per view’ model for the industry through his recent film Climax starring Mia Malkova, it doesn’t need saying that the director is merely interested in making quick money with his cheap sensationalism.

Even if his idea was to celebrate the idea of desire, it’s apparent that cinematic craft is of least interest to RGV. There’s no doubt that the filmmaker is many light-years past his best. His tweets, for over a decade now, have been more entertaining and found more takers than his films. Every time when you feel he can’t plunge to a newer low, he’s in for a surprise (shock we mean). In comparison, his bloated trailer of the film he’s making about Coronavirus looks like a cult classic. However, the producers and the digital platform owners of the application Shreyas ET are making merry.
