Tollywood popular actress Bhumika Chawla was initially considered for the iconic role in Bajirao Mastani (2015). The movie which was finally brought to life by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was in the making for over a decade. Though Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh eventually starred in the movie, Bhumika was a strong contender for the female lead before circumstances took a turn.
In one of the previous interviews, Bhumika shared an unforgettable incident from her screen test for Bajirao Mastani. It happened just after the success of Tere Naam, when Bhansali had invited her for a photo shoot. The shoot took an unexpected turn when she was holding a tray of diyas. One of the diyas fell onto her silk saree, and in an instant, it caught fire. This terrifying moment not only shocked everyone present but also caused a delay in her casting for the movie.
Bhumika mentioned that her screen test happened soon after the incident, and while she was hopeful about the project, things eventually changed. The role that was initially offered to her eventually went to Deepika Padukone, who made the character of Mastani unforgettable in the final version of the film.
