Thurum Khanlu Review
‘Thurum Khanlu’ is the latest film that has hit theatres on Friday. Featuring fresh faces mostly, this small-budget film competes with the more giant flick ‘Miss Shetty and Mr Polishetty’, let’s see the review now.

Plot

Shankar (played by Sreeram Nimmala) is an aspiring political leader in his small village Tupakulagudem in Telangana State. He convinces his girlfriend Lalita (Aishwarya Ullingala) to get married during the lockdown. At the same time, Viraj Brahma (played by Devaraj Palamur), who works as a software engineer in Hyderabad, lands in the village. Brahmam falls in love with Bharathi, a widow with two children from the same village.

Another college-goer Vishnu (Avinash Chaudhary) is in love with Padma, a fellow student from the next village. Brahmam hampers Shankar’s marriage by complaining to the officials during the corona-induced lockdown. On the other hand, Vishnu suspects Padma’s love, thus they part ways.

The later part of the story tells what Shankar does to target Brahma who spoiled his marriage. Why Brahmam doesn’t get proper alliances for marriage even after he crosses 40 years? Will Vishnu unite with Padma ever? — is the story in short.
Analysys

The film ‘Thurumu Khanlu’ starts on a very funny note with Shankar’s wedding arrangements in place on the other hand the entry of software engineer Brahmam in the village.

The characters and the way the situations are dealt with evoke good laughter. The village comedy in rural Telangana looked organic. The comedy sequences involving Viraj Brahmam make the audience immerse into the story.

Director Shiva Kalyan’s talent came to the fore for the way the story has been handled. Jealousy among people in rural areas, showcasing the middle-class struggles, farmers suffering and poverty. The script has the proper weight when it comes to saving the story from boredom. Watching Shankar as a wannabe politician riding Bullet and Brahmam as a wanderer yelling at whoever comes on his way — was pure fun.

Performances

Actor Sriram has put in a strong performance as a young political leader Shankar. Actor Devaraj Palamur looked impressive with his style and mannerisms of a rural youth. Actor Avinash as college student Vishnu is convincing. Aishwarya too did well in her character. Others too have put up decent performances.

Music and other departments

The credit for music is shared among Vinod Yajamanya, Akhilesh Gogu and Riyan. The background score could have been better. The songs laced with Telangana folklore are okay.

The writing department earns brownies in the film. The screenplay and the way the characters are portrayed defines the creative vision of the director. However, the production values could have been better. But due to budget constraints, the film couldn’t earn a rich look as we usually see a mainstream film. But producer Asif Jani should be hailed for the attempt.
