How Mumbai police tracked down attacker in Saif Ali Khan case?

Mumbai Police arrested Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, for attacking actor Saif Ali Khan during a burglary attempt at his residence. Shehzad was living under the false name of Bijoy Das. He was caught on Sunday in Thane, Maharashtra.

The Mumbai Police formed 30 teams to track down the attacker. They started their investigation with CCTV footage from Saif Ali Khan’s home in Bandra. The footage showed the suspect leaving the building after the attack.

The police reviewed hours of CCTV footage and identified the suspect in DN Nagar, Andheri. They traced his bike using the bike’s registration number. The police also received information from local intelligence, pointing to a rented house in Koliwada, Worli. Investigators discovered that Shehzad was living there with three other people.

The police questioned the people living at the house. They got details like his phone number and other information. Using his phone’s location, they traced him to a remote area in Thane. The police surrounded the area and arrested Shehzad.

Shehzad, 30, had illegally entered India and had been using the name Vijay Das. He came to Mumbai 5–6 months ago and worked in a housekeeping agency. Shehzad admitted during questioning that he didn’t know Saif Ali Khan lived in the house. He said he entered the building for the first time through the back staircase and air-conditioning ducts.

Dikshit Gedam, DCP of Mumbai’s Crime Branch stated that there is evidence to show Shehzad is a Bangladeshi national. He did not have any valid Indian documents. Shehzad will be produced in court, and the police will seek his custody for further investigation.

Saif Ali Khan was injured in the attack and was treated at Lilavati Hospital. He received six stab wounds but is recovering well. The police plan to recreate the crime scene to gather more evidence.
