Thug Life OTT : Kamal Haasanz Film To Arrive on Netflix Sooner Than Planned
Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s film Thug Life, which was released in theatres on June 5, 2025, might stream on Netflix much earlier than expected. While the makers originally planned to bring the film to OTT after eight weeks, new reports suggest it may arrive on Netflix within just four weeks.
The reason behind this change appears to be the film’s disappointing performance at the box office. Despite high hopes and a strong cast, including Silambarasan TR (Simbu), the film reportedly failed to impress audiences and received mixed to negative reviews from critics.
Sources say that Netflix may speed up the digital release to recover some of the film’s financial losses. Earlier, Kamal Haasan had backed the eight-week gap, believing it would help boost theatrical earnings. But with fewer viewers showing up at cinemas, the producers are now reconsidering that decision. However, no official statement has been made by the team or Netflix yet.
Thug Life is a gangster drama about Sakthivel, a mafia leader played by Kamal Haasan, who adopts a young man, Amaran (played by Simbu), after a violent shootout. The movie focuses on crime, betrayal, and survival.
Despite its strong visuals, AR Rahman’s music, and Mani Ratnam’s direction, many felt the film lacked clarity in the second half and had weak villains.
Fans are now waiting to see if the early OTT release will be confirmed. If reports are true, Thug Life could land on Netflix in less than a month.
