When Will Thug Life Hit OTT? Kamal Haasan Reveals Streaming Plans
Thug Life directed by Mani Ratnam is one of the most awaited gangster movies this year. The film stars legendary actor Kamal Haasan and popular star Silambarasan TR in lead roles. It is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5 2025 and fans are already excited about the story and the cast.
After its theatrical release Thug Life will also be available to watch on an OTT platform. Usually movies come to digital platforms about four weeks after their theater release. However Kamal Haasan revealed at a pre-release event that Thug Life will take a longer time it will be released on OTT only after eight weeks in theaters.
The streaming service Netflix will be the official platform to stream Thug Life after its run in cinemas. Kamal Haasan explained that the decision was a practical one made after discussions with Netflix and they were happy to set this new pattern. He also mentioned that this approach could become an example for the film industry helping it stay healthy by giving theaters a longer exclusive time.
The film has already been certified with a UA rating by the censor board with minor cuts. It has a runtime of about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Apart from Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR the movie features well-known actors like Trisha Krishnan Pankaj Tripathi and Sanya Malhotra.
The story centers around a complex father son relationship set against a gritty gangster backdrop. The music is composed by AR Rahman.
