Recent Telugu Films Face Boycott Heat Due to Political Remarks
The upcoming Telugu movie Bhairavam is facing unexpected backlash on social media. This film features actors Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas, Manchu Manoj, and Nara Rohith in lead roles. Directed by Vijay Kanakamedala, the movie is set to release on May 30. The promotions were going well, and the trailer received good response. However, a recent comment made by the director during a trailer launch event has sparked controversy.
The trailer launch happened in Eluru, where many TDP leaders attended along with the film cast and crew. During the event, director Vijay said, “Whenever there is a need to protect justice, someone always comes. A year ago, someone came to protect justice in our state. In our movie, Lord Bhairava comes to protect dharma.” These comments were seen by some as political and were thought to target the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh.
This statement upset YSRCP supporters, who began trending #BoycottBhairavam on social media. They claim that the director’s comments hurt their sentiments and mixed politics with cinema. Many users on social media posted that they had planned to watch the movie but changed their minds because of these political remarks. It’s not the first time that a Laila film has faced the same.
The negative trend is creating problems for the film’s success. People are comparing this to a similar issue faced by the movie Laila, where actor Prudhvi’s political comments caused harm to that film’s performance.
