Why South Heroines Aren’t Settling in Bollywood
Many South Indian actresses are proving that they don’t need to settle in Bollywood to become national stars. In recent times, actresses like Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Samantha, and Tamannaah have received offers from Hindi cinema, but they are not rushing to build a full-time career there.
There was a time when South Indian heroines used to dream about Bollywood. It was seen as the ultimate goal. But now, things have changed. The South film industry itself has become powerful and widely accepted across India. Thanks to blockbuster films and OTT platforms, South actors are gaining fans all over the country. So, these actresses now feel that working in Bollywood is useful, but not necessary.
Keerthy Suresh made her Bollywood debut with Maidaan and Baby John, but hasn’t signed another Hindi film even after several months. She seems focused on Telugu and Tamil films. Similarly, Nayanthara gained attention after her Bollywood debut in Jawan, but hasn’t signed any more Hindi projects since then. Trisha, another popular actress, hasn’t worked in Bollywood since her 2010 film Khatta Meetha.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu also made a strong impact with her Hindi web series The Family Man 2. Though she became popular in the North, she has not done any Bollywood films so far. Her upcoming web series Rakht Brahmand is also a digital release, not a theatrical Bollywood movie. Tamannaah Bhatia occasionally works in Hindi films but does not seem interested in fully shifting to Bollywood.
These stars clearly believe in building their careers on their terms. For them, Bollywood is an opportunity but not a destination. They are confident that with the power of South Indian cinema, they can reach audiences across India without leaving their base.
