DYK your ChatGPT use might reveal your age
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently shared some interesting thoughts on how people of different ages use ChatGPT. Speaking at the AI Ascent event by Sequoia Capital, he said the way people interact with ChatGPT often depends on their age.
According to Altman, older users usually treat ChatGPT like a better version of Google. They ask it questions to get direct answers, much like how they would search on the internet. However, people in their 20s and 30s tend to use ChatGPT more like a personal advisor. Many of them even ask the AI for help in making big life decisions.
Altman mentioned that some college students go even further. He said students treat ChatGPT almost like an “operating system” for their lives. They connect it to different files, use detailed prompts, and rely on it for everything from studying to personal planning. In some cases, people even use it to think through decisions about relationships, jobs, and future plans.
He added that this isn’t just a small trend. More and more users are starting to trust AI tools like ChatGPT with personal advice and emotional support. Some people even use it like a therapist, especially when they don’t feel comfortable talking to someone else.
For example, one user shared how ChatGPT helps him stay motivated with his workouts. The AI remembers his fitness habits and recommends new exercises based on his preferences. This memory feature is helpful in many areas of life.
While some find this level of reliance a bit concerning, others see it as a smart way to use technology. As AI tools become more advanced and personal, the line between a helpful assistant and a life guide may continue to blur.
