Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 6: Kamal Haasan’s Film Faces Major Setback
Kamal Haasan’s big-budget movie Thug Life, directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam, is struggling at the box office. Though the film created high expectations due to the reunion of Kamal and Mani Ratnam after their iconic film Nayakan, it hasn’t lived up to the hype.
Released on June 5, 2025, Thug Life stars Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan, and Silambarasan TR. Made with a massive budget of ₹200 crore, the film opened with 4,917 shows across India in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. However, within just six days, the number of shows has fallen sharply to 2,089, indicating a drop in public interest.
The film was not released in Karnataka due to Kamal Haasan’s controversial remark linking Kannada to Tamil. This decision likely impacted its overall revenue. On the sixth day, the movie earned only ₹1.75 crore in India. The Tamil version had an occupancy rate of 17%, while Hindi and Telugu versions had just 6% and 13.47% respectively.
So far, Thug Life has managed to earn around ₹40.95 crore in India — a low return for a film with such a high budget. This marks Kamal Haasan’s second underperforming film after Indian 2. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5, released in the same week, has crossed ₹100 crore in just four days.
If the current trend continues, Thug Life might follow the fate of other recent disappointments like Sikandar and Baby John. Despite its grand scale and star-studded team, the film is struggling to connect with audiences and recover its investment.
