Actor reveals film critic’s bribery scandal in Bollywood

paid reviews

In a recent turn of events, Bollywood actor Vidyut Jammwal has brought to light the issue of bribery in film reviews. Following the release of his film Crakk – Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa, which didn’t perform well at the box office, Vidyut took to social media to expose film critic Sumit Kadel.

Vidyut accused Kadel of accepting bribes to write favorable reviews, marking that failure to pay results in negative critiques, regardless of a film’s quality. This revelation sparked support for the actor on social media, with users praising his courage and condemning the alleged corruption in Bollywood media.

Vidyut Jammwal recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) that well-known film critic Sumit Kadel accepts money to give positive reviews for movies. Interestingly, the creators of “Crakk” didn’t pay Sumit to promote their film. Vidyut claimed his only mistake was not offering money to Sumit. After Vidyut’s revelation, Sumit gave a reply and blocked the actor from his X account.

Sumit Kadel, the critic in question, has replied to Vidyut’s accusation in a lengthy Twitter post. He argued that Vidyut is singling him out for an old issue that occurred during the movie promotions. Regarding the earnings of the film Crakk, it seems to be struggling at the box office, making only ₹8.81 crores over the weekend, and the weekdays showing a further decline.

Despite the back-and-forth, Vidyut’s expose has fueled a growing distrust in the industry towards film critics who engage in paid reviews. Yami Gautam and Sandeep Reddy Vanga have previously expressed their concerns about biased reviews and personal grudges affecting the perception of their work in the media. As discussions on the matter continue, the Bollywood industry faces scrutiny regarding transparency and ethics in film criticism.
