Sonu Nigam controversy:
Popular singer Sonu Nigam is in the middle of a controversy after a comment he made during his concert in Bengaluru on April 25, 2025. The concert took place at East Point College and a fan loudly asked him to sing a Kannada song. The request was made in a rude manner which upset the singer. In response, Sonu compared the fan’s aggressive behavior to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
This comparison did not sit well with many people in Karnataka. A pro-Kannada group called Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) filed a police complaint against the singer. They accused Sonu of insulting the Kannada speaking community and trying to create tension between different language groups.
This post is a prime example of how Kannadigas are losing their spine — thanks to people like you who twist linguistic rights into “language politics”, and glorify submissiveness as unity.

In their complaint, the group said, “This statement is insensitive and dangerous. By connecting a song request to a terror attack, Sonu Nigam is making Kannadigas look intolerant and promoting hate.”
Following this, activists from ‘Yuva Karnataka Vedike’ also demanded that Sonu be banned from singing in Kannada films. A complaint was submitted to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce asking that he be barred until he apologizes.
Sonu later explained his side. He said he has always respected Karnataka and has sung many Kannada songs in his career. The singer, who has performed in 32 languages, shared that he often sings at least one Kannada song when fans request it during shows in the state. However,l he didn’t like the tone and attitude of the fan during this particular concert.
Sonu clarified, “I always feel loved in Karnataka. But the way that young man shouted at me, threatening me to sing in Kannada, was hurtful. He isn’t even as old as my career. I usually respond positively to requests, but rudeness should not be encouraged.”
