Acharya Movie Review

Acharya has been stuck with its release for over three years now. The Koratala Siva action drama starring Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan is out now. Read on to see if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Basava(Sonu Sood) is a dreaded criminal in the temple town of Dharmasthali. As the temple land is precious and suits mining, he is in plans to dissolve the temple. But Acharya(Chiranjeevi), an ex-Naxalite enters the scene and tries to stop it. But why an ex-Naxalite is after the temple and what’s his motto will be known only when you watch the film in theaters.

Performances

Chiranjeevi is shown in a new manner by Koratala Siva. In many places, he looks calm and that was needed for the film. But the fans might get disappointed seeing Chiranjeevi in such a subdued manner. There was no need for the director to tone him down so much. But yet Chiranjeevi shines and gives his fans what they come for.

Ram Charan is the hero of Acharya and it was evident from the trailer itself. The same happens as he is given more importance than Chiranjeevi in many scenes. Charan does a sincere job with his acting and even dominates the show in many scenes which is good in a way for the fans.

Pooja Hegde does not get to do much apart from coming in a song and a few scenes. Sonu Sood is the biggest misfit in the film. He hams as if there is no tomorrow. Ajay gets a good role and ably supports the film.

Analysis

Koratala Siva is known for his social dramas but he has taken a different route with Acharya. There is no social drama in this film and only the project is set to accommodate the father and son which has failed. The so-called music which is the life of any film is also disappointing. Mani Sharma is out of focus and so is his BGM as well.

The first half is so dull and most of the story is already complete. Acharya does not have a strong enough villain to head on and that is the reason, the makers bring in Ram Charan to divert the story. All this is showcased in the second half and makes some sense.

But the emotional bond between the father and son is missing as there is no story or impact that will give chance for the stars to perform. Storywise, novelty wise, and narration wise, Acharya has nothing new to be showcased.

What attracts you are the lavish sets that have been laid. Most of the film happens here and is a treat for the eyes. The camera work is also good but the screenplay is bad and takes down the film. A minimum fare was expected when Koratala Siva was on board for this film. But he has made a disappointing film, to say the least.

Bottom Line – A wasted opportunity
