Bujjamma tugs at your heart strings

Kavya, the 8th wonder. The short film directed by Kushal has a neat and a tightly written script and exudes positivity. We have had debates some time back on how our mother tongue fanatics are depriving millions of young school children the opportunity to exploit the best global opportunities. This tiny story emphasizes and underlines the need for parents to educate children in English medium schools from the primary level onwards. Bujjamma aka Kavya is the only daughter to her parents who lives in a remote village and she grows up as a happy kid amidst nature and appreciates all things small and beautiful. The family lives in a hut and the parents bring up the kid with utmost love and affection. One fine day, the teacher tells the parents that the child is special, she is intelligent and should be encouraged to go to an English medium school in the city. The child wants to be with the parents and the parents initially worry about it but keeping the larger interest of her future in mind sends her to the city.bujjammaKavya is ragged by class mates, she is ridiculed whenever she says something and no one befriends her. Breaking the class divide is her teacher. While the teacher and her parents encouraged her to go to the city back then, here too the teacher gives attention to her needs and facilitates the bud to bloom. The fifteen minute  something  film is an endearing watch. Kavya impresses her teachers and shocks them with her independent thinking and creativity which is departure from the regular memorizing in the class by the students. When a child is given confidence, a little encouragement and some love there is no looking back. A child at that age could easily break down and her diffidence could have never allowed her to step into the city. She comes up with a splendid reply when asked about the seven wonders of the world. There is so much to take away from Bujjamma and this film. Every character has something to spell out. The most revolutionary idea for India’s progress and prosperity in the 21st century would be to take English medium education to all government-run schools. The film is presented by RK Nallam and directed by Khusal
