Suriya’s Retro OTT:
After completing a four-week theatrical run, Suriya’s action-packed romantic drama Retro is gearing up for its digital premiere. Netflix has officially announced that the film will begin streaming on its platform starting May 31.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, marking his first collaboration with Suriya, Retro follows the journey of Paarivel “Paari” Kannan, an orphan raised by a gangster. As Paari digs into his mysterious origins, he finds himself battling betrayal, confronting a violent cult, and navigating a prophecy that could change his life—all while attempting to reunite with his lost love, Rukmini.

Released in cinemas on May 1, Retro received a mixed response from critics and audiences.
Despite the varied reviews, Retro managed to strike gold at the box office, grossing over ₹21 crore across India. Adding a generous note to the film’s commercial success, Suriya donated ₹10 crore from the film’s profits to his Agaram Foundation, which works to support education for underprivileged children.
Produced by 2D Entertainment (headed by Suriya and Jyotika) in collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films, Retro boasts a strong ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Karunakaran, and others.
The film’s technical team features music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, editing by Shafique Mohamed, and action choreography by Kecha Khamphakdee. Praveen Raja handled costumes, while Jackson served as the art director.
With its upcoming OTT release, Retro is expected to find a new wave of viewers eager to experience Suriya’s intense performance and Karthik Subbaraj’s signature storytelling on the small screen.
