Opinion: Hero’s should stand up for heroines

It is indeed sad that female artistes are subject to trolling, body shaming and criticism always. This is not the first time it is happening, ever since social media became active, every face less person behind the computer got the freedom to call any woman he dislikes a slut. There are people who remain silent and those who block such accounts but how long and how many can you do that?

When Anasuya said what Vijay Devarakonda did at the pre-release event of Arjun Reddy was in bad taste and was a bad example, she was trolled mercilessly. Thankfully, the actress is made of sterner stuff and ignores it. Chinmayi had approached cybercrime and sought to file a case against a handful people who threatened rape and killing and said she was threatened with sticking a rod up her vagina.

Meera Chopra is being harassed now because she was asked who her favourite star was and she said it wasn’t NTR. She is facing online abuse and has asked NTR to react. Actually, the screen heroes who post wishes, being a man enough’ videos should react. The least they can do is to tell their fans, tweet that such inhuman behaviour is uncalled for and they should put an end to it immediately. If they do or not is a different question altogether but at least, we know if they had taken a stand and a change is initiated. When such things happen, stars remain mute. They need to and must stand up for their colleagues, their heroines, co-stars. One Tweet can make all the difference if the abuse is happening by a die hard fan.
