Samantha Faces OTT Shock Over ‘Shubham’ Movie Deal
Tollywood star Samantha Ruth Prabhu is not just known for her acting but also for her interest in film production. She recently produced her first movie ‘Shubham’ under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures. This film, a horror-comedy directed by Praveen Kandregula, was released in theatres on May 9, 2025. It received good reviews from critics and featured fresh faces like Harshith Reddy, Shreya Kontham, Charan Peri, and Shalini Kondepudi. Samantha also appeared in a special cameo role.
Although ‘Shubham’ was praised for its content, it could not perform well at the box office in terms of collections. Now, the movie is in the news because of a key decision Samantha took regarding its OTT release.
Earlier reports suggested that the digital and satellite rights of ‘Shubham’ were sold to Zee Group. However, after the theatrical release, Zee Group reportedly tried to change the terms of the deal. They allegedly offered a lower amount than initially agreed for the OTT release. Disappointed by this change, Samantha decided to cancel the deal with Zee Group completely. Industry insiders say that she clearly told them, “We are not giving you the movie.”
After ending the deal with Zee, Samantha is now said to be in talks with popular streaming platform Jio Hotstar. Sources reveal that discussions are going well and an official announcement regarding the OTT release of ‘Shubham’ may come soon.
Even though Samantha’s first film as a producer did not earn big in theatres, she is hopeful about gaining success through its OTT release. Her strong business decisions like cancelling the Zee deal and exploring better options like Jio Hotstar show her smart thinking as a producer.
Samantha took a risk by stepping into film production, but her moves are being appreciated in the industry. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see ‘Shubham’ online and support her new journey as a producer.
