Thug Life box office day 4:
Mani Ratnam’s latest film Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, and Trisha Krishnan, had a mixed performance at the box office in its opening weekend. Released on a Thursday, the film started strong but saw a dip in collections over the next few days.
According to trade reports, Thug Life earned ₹15.5 crore on its first day in India. However, on Friday, the numbers dropped sharply to ₹7.15 crore. Saturday saw a slight improvement with ₹7.75 crore, while Sunday’s estimated earnings were around ₹5.24 crore. This brought the total collection for the first four days to ₹35.64 crore.
Although the film’s performance is decent, it did not meet the high expectations fans had from the collaboration of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after decades. The duo last worked together in the 1987 classic Nayakan, which is considered a milestone in Indian cinema.
In comparison, Kamal’s recent film Indian 2, directed by Shankar, had a stronger opening with ₹62.15 crore in four days. Similarly, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan parts 1 and 2 had first-weekend collections of over ₹100 crore each, setting a high benchmark.
Thug Life features Kamal Haasan in the role of Shaktivel (Shakti) and Silambarasan TR as his adopted son Amar. The film also stars Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ali Fazal, and others. It blends drama, action, and emotional depth but has faced issues such as a ban in Karnataka due to a language-related controversy, possibly affecting its box office performance in the region.
