HIT 3 Backlash: Are the Makers Out of Touch with Reality?
The upcoming movie HIT 3: The Third Case is generating significant buzz, with just five days left until its release. The makers of the film have taken a smart step by opening advance bookings on BookMyShow early, which is a refreshing change, as many big films have struggled with last-minute bookings in recent times. Overseas shipments have also been planned ahead, avoiding any last-minute rush.
However, the movie’s ticket pricing has sparked a wave of criticism. In Telangana, the ticket prices are set at 295 for multiplexes and 175 for single-screen theaters following the standard permitted rates. But the situation is different in Andhra Pradesh. While multiplex tickets are priced at around 177, single-screen tickets range from 110 to 145. The makers have requested an additional hike of 50 to 75 per ticket in the state, and a government order approving this hike is expected soon.
This has led to an intense backlash from the public on social media. Many people believe that the movie makers are out of touch with the current reality. With the rise of OTT platforms and the prevalence of HD piracy, audiences feel that ticket prices should be reduced, not increased. The decision to hike ticket prices for a regular crime thriller with a modest budget is seen by many as a greedy move. In the unbearable summer heat, even those willing to watch the film in theaters may reconsider because of the high prices.
Critics also argue that Nani, despite being a popular actor is not a top-tier star whose films can command such high ticket prices. If the makers set unaffordable ticket rates for a mid-range film, they shouldn’t blame the audience for not attending theaters. The responsibility for low theater attendance, they say will fall squarely on the film’s makers.
