Vijay Deverakonda to be next victim in Tollywood’s risky trend?
Tollywood has recently embraced the trend of two-part films. Movies like Devara, Kalki, and Pushpa have followed this approach, but they’ve faced criticism from audiences. The main concern lies in the storytelling, as makers often dilute the narrative to stretch it into two parts. This has left fans disappointed, with forced endings and unnecessary setups for sequels.
For instance, Devara was criticized for a weak first part, aimed solely at setting up a better second installment. Similarly, Pushpa 2 faced backlash for its abrupt conclusion, seemingly tailored to pave the way for Pushpa 3.

Now, Vijay Deverakonda is stepping into this territory with his upcoming film VD12, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Producer Naga Vamsi recently confirmed that the film will be released in two parts. However, this move is risky for Vijay, as he is at a critical stage in his career. Unlike NTR and Allu Arjun, who managed to recover despite criticism, Vijay doesn’t have the same cushion of success.
This film is seen as a make-or-break project for him. Hence, it is essential that VD12 delivers a strong and complete story in its first part. Fans and critics alike are watching closely, given the high stakes and Vijay’s need for a commercial hit.
Currently, VD12 is in its final shooting phase and is expected to release next summer. Marketed as an action-packed entertainer, it also marks the first two-part venture for Sithara Entertainments. Only time will tell if Vijay’s gamble on this format pays off.
