Tamil industry pressure stops Vijay working with Telugu director

Telugu director Gopichand Malineni recently gained appreciation for his Bollywood action film Jaat. Although the movie did not reach ₹100 crore at the box office, Gopichand received praise for presenting a mass entertainer with Sunny Deol, whose popularity has faded in recent years.

During one of his promotional interviews, Gopichand made a surprising revelation. He shared that after completing Veera Simha Reddy, he narrated a script to Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay. According to Gopichand, Vijay liked the story during the very first sitting and was ready to move forward. However, the project was later dropped due to pressure from the Tamil film industry. The reason? Gopichand is a Telugu director.

This statement created a buzz on social media. Many users expressed disappointment, blaming the Tamil film industry for being biased and unwilling to collaborate with non-Tamil filmmakers. One viral comment read, “Typical Tamil industry behavior—focused more on region than content.”

Several fans believe Vijay missed a golden opportunity. They criticized his recent films like The GOAT and Jana Nayagan for lacking impact. They feel Gopichand could have presented Vijay in a powerful mass avatar, similar to how he gave a strong comeback role to Sunny Deol in Jaat.

Some fans even suggested that for his final film, Vijay should have picked a director like Gopichand over Tamil filmmakers such as Venkat Prabhu or H. Vinoth. They strongly believe that breaking regional boundaries leads to better cinema.
